Preparing for a hard conversation with your sponsor

Writing it down first makes it easier to say out loud. How to use the private workbook to get ready — and how to share only what you choose.

Some conversations are easier when you’ve already found the words. The HEAL workbook gives you guided prompts to think things through privately before you talk to a sponsor, a counselor or a doctor.

Private by default

Everything you write in the workbook is encrypted and visible only to you. HEAL staff, moderators, hosts and partner organizations can’t read it. It never appears in notifications, emails or analytics.

A simple way to start

  1. Open Workbook → Conversation prep.
  2. Answer the prompts at your own pace. Your answers save as you type, and you can come back any time.
  3. Don’t aim for perfect. A few honest lines are enough.

Sharing with a human — only if you choose

When you’re ready, tap Share with a human. You choose exactly which answers to include and who they’re for. HEAL creates a private link that expires (after a week by default) and that you can switch off at any time. If you add their email, we send them the link — never the content itself.

What the workbook is not

The workbook is a place to think and prepare. It isn’t a sponsor, a therapist or a diagnosis, and no one is watching what you write. If you’re struggling right now, reach out to a person: call or text 988, or join a meeting.
