Our standardTransparentUnpaid

A standard you can’tbuy your way into.

Most treatment directories are paid advertising. HEAL’s list is deliberately short, and every provider on it has met the same published standard. Here it is, in full.
  1. 1

    Firsthand experience and a walkthrough

Someone we trust has firsthand experience as a patient, and the site is walked through in person.

  2. 2

    Credentials and clinical safety

Licenses, ownership, accreditation and regulatory status are verified, along with qualified staff, withdrawal policies, naloxone on site and a patient grievance process.

  3. 3

    Honest admissions

Admissions staff and counselor roles must be represented truthfully — no salespeople posing as clinicians.

  4. 4

    Real follow-up

We examine consent-compliant alumni follow-up at day 3, 30 and 90, and invite independent feedback from former patients.

  5. 5

    Published disclosures

Relevant ownership and commercial relationships are published on the listing.

  6. 6

    Committee sign-off

Approval needs a review committee that includes at least one independent member. Conflicted votes don’t count.

  7. 7

    Annual recheck

Every listing is rechecked at least every 12 months, and after any material change in ownership or medical director.

The checklist

Every requirement,tracked per listing.

How approval works

At least two non-conflicted approve votes, including one from an independent reviewer, and a complete checklist. Every decision is kept in an audit trail.

Fair to providers, too

Negative findings are verified, the provider gets a right of response, and legal review happens before anything is published. We never publish accusations generated from user reports.

Commercial guardrails

No pay-to-play.Not now, not ever.

These rules are non-negotiable. They apply to HEAL and to every organization connected to it.
  • We never accept payment per admission or per referred patient — directly or indirectly.
  • We never accept paid sponsorship inside member meetings, private step work or crisis flows.
  • We never sell member data, including “anonymized” or aggregated data.
  • No one — not paying partners, founders or affiliates — can buy a vetting outcome.
  • Relevant affiliations and financial interests are disclosed on provider listings.
  • Any future HEAL-affiliated clinical service is held to the same public standard, with no exclusive steering.
  • Business partners never get access to members’ private journal content.
